Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has congratulated all the volunteers at Rhoose Library as it celebrates ten years as a community run facility.
The library has been run solely by volunteers for the past decade, after the Vale of Glamorgan Council decided it would no longer fund the service.
Rather than allow the village to lose the facility, residents stepped up to fill the void.
Mr Davies is a strong supporter of the library and donated towards the project from his Community Engagement Fund during his time as a Rhoose councillor.
He paid tribute to all volunteers and said they “demonstrate the best of community service”.
Mr Davies said:
“Jeff James and the volunteers at Rhoose Community Library are an inspiration and show the very best of civic duty.
“When the Council decided to drop the service, the village did not just accept it – they worked hard to build a strong team to keep the library going.
“That it’s still going from strength to strength ten years later is testament to their work.
“It’s always been a pleasure to support the library, including during the time when I was privileged to serve as a Rhoose councillor.
“The library was one of many causes that received a donation from my Community Engagement Fund, and it’s really pleasing to see the money put to such good use.”
