Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has welcomed proposals to cap written prescription fees from vets.
Under the new policy, announced by the Competition & Markets Authority, fees will be capped at £21.
Vets must also publish price lists, provide price estimates ahead of treatment and tell clients if cheaper medicine is available online.
The CMA has made the changes legally binding, and vets have 12 months to bring them in.
Mr Davies said:
“Owning a pet is a big responsibility and a large financial commitment.
“These changes to protect pet owners from unnecessarily exorbitant fees are to be welcomed.
“I’m pleased to see them introduced.”
