Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has called for “urgent changes in policy” after 781 migrants arrived in the UK in small boats on Wednesday.

The figure represents the highest number of arrivals in a single day in 2026.

Responding to the news, Mr Davies said all pull factors that encourage people to enter Britain illegally must be removed.

He called for Plaid Cymru’s Nation of Sanctuary policy to be scrapped.

Mr Davies said:

“On Wednesday, 781 migrants entered the UK via small boat – a 2026 record.

“The removal of all pull factors that encourage people to Britain illegally is essential.

“Plaid Cymru separatists’ Nation of Sanctuary policy must be scrapped.”
