Welsh Conservative Shadow Rural Affairs Minister Andrew RT Davies has criticised a Labour minister who suggested visions of Britain based on warm ale, pubs and black labradors are a ‘far-Right’ fantasy that ‘never really existed’.
Nature Minister Jenny Riddell-Carpenter said she is kept “awake at night” thinking about how the far right will weaponise the countryside at the next election.
Mr Davies, who lives in the rural village of St Hilary in the Vale of Glamorgan, condemned her comments and said it showed the progressive left’s “contempt for countryside communities”.
He stressed the culture and character of rural villages must be protected.
Mr Davies said:
“Our rural communities are not a far-right fantasy, they are essential to our country’s character.
“With the progressive left seemingly intent on destroying them, they must be protected.
“Our culture must be conserved.”
