Conservative MS for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has warned several constituents have told him the Senedd looks like a “joke” after an exchange in which politicians were reprimanded for using the term “blanket”.
Conservative Janet Finch-Saunders, Reform’s David Mills, Plaid Cymru’s Gwyn Williams and the Greens’ Paul Rock all apologised for describing Wales’ 20mph speed limits as a “blanket” policy.
Mr Davies said several constituents had contacted him to express “disbelief” at the exchange – saying it looked like a “Monty Python sketch”.
He also said attempts by Plaid Cymru to criminalise politicians who lie should be resisted, warning it was motivated by a desire to police language.
Mr Davies said:
“Many constituents have contacted me about the exchange, saying it makes the Senedd look like a joke.
“It’s also why Plaid Cymru separatists’ attempts to criminalise lying in politics must be resisted.
“It’s a nefarious move to police language and limit scrutiny and debate.”
