Welsh Conservative Shadow Environment Minister Andrew RT Davies has criticised a proposed remuneration package for the Chief Executive of Natural Resources Wales of up to almost £200,000.
Mr Davies said the “exorbitant” salary would not address structural problems with the failed environmental regulator, which Welsh Conservatives have pledged to abolish.
An announcement published on the Welsh Government’s website confirmed Plaid Cymru ministers have approved a renumeration range of £185,000 to £195,000 for the post.
Mr Davies said:
“This exorbitant salary won’t address longstanding problems at Natural Resources Wales.
“Rather than take meaningful action, Plaid Cymru separatist ministers instead propose paying a new member of Wales’ quangocracy more than the prime minister to run a body that is inherently flawed.
“The right way forward it to scrap NRW with its powers brought under direct ministerial control.”
