Welsh Conservative Shadow Farming Minister Andrew RT Davies has paid tribute to Welsh farmers as the “custodians of the countryside”, on a visit to Baiden Farm, Cefn Cribwr.
Mr Davies was welcomed to the farm by William, June, Rob and Gareth Howells, on a visit organised by the Farmers’ Union of Wales.
He praised the “insightful” visit, which demonstrated some of the challenges farmers face.
He reiterated his calls for action to tackle Bovine TB and reform of subsidy schemes, to help farmers fulfil their responsibilities.
Mr Davies said:
“Farmers are the custodians of the Welsh countryside. There’s no one better placed to conserve the land for future generations. We must help, not hinder, their efforts.
“I’m really grateful to William, June, Rob and Gareth for the warm welcome to Baiden Farm, and to the FUW for organising it.
“Being Shadow Farming Minister is giving me the opportunity to get out and visit farms all over Wales. It’s a real privilege.”
