Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has criticised a campaign to change the name of Wales.
A petition has been launched that calls for Wales’ official name to be changed to Cymru and for English place names to no longer be used.
Mr Davies labelled it an attempt to change Wales’ culture and exclude non-Welsh speakers.
He pointed out over 80% of people in Wales do not speak the Welsh language, and warned dropping the English language name would exclude them.
Mr Davies said:
“I was born and brought up in Wales and have lived here my whole life.
“The name Wales is an important part of our history, identity and culture.
“This attempt to scrap it must be resisted.”
