Conservative Senedd member for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan Andrew RT Davies has encouraged local community groups to apply for a new defibrillator funding programme.
The scheme is run by the British Heart Foundation, and successful applicants will receive a defibrillator and a cabinet.
Around 3,000 cardiac arrests take place each year in Wales outside of a hospital.
Just 1 in 20 people survive an out of hospital cardiac arrest in Wales, compared to 1 in 10 in England and Scotland.
Every minute without CPR or defibrillation during cardiac arrest reduces a person’s chance of survival by 10%.
Community groups can apply for the scheme on the British Heart Foundation’s website.
Applications are expected to close on 28th February 2027.
Mr Davies emphasised the importance of defibrillators, explaining he’d delivered several through the Community Engagement Fund he set up when he was a Vale of Glamorgan councillor.
Mr Davies said:
“Community defibrillators save lives – it’s incredibly important to provide them in our communities.
“This is a fantastic initiative from the British Heart Foundation, and I’d urge local community groups to apply.
“I delivered several community defibrillators through my Community Engagement Fund when I was a Vale of Glamorgan councillor – and it’s great to see further opportunities to improve coverage across our area.”
