DAVIES: “Health visitor strike ongoing thanks to ministers’ inaction”

Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has met with striking health visitors at Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board.

The dispute remains unresolved at the Health Board, which covers Bridgend in Mr Davies’ constituency.

Mr Davies blamed the ongoing dispute on Plaid Cymru ministers’ failure to intervene appropriately.

He said their stance was “inexcusable”, given pre-election statements made by First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth.

In April this year, Iorwerth was a joint signatory to a letter demanding “immediate action to bring this dispute to a just and lasting solution”.

After the new Plaid administration took power, a striking health visitor contacted Mr Davies and told him they’re “no closer” to resolving the situation.

Mr Davies said Senedd ministers and the Health Board must be proactive and show leadership by “getting around the table to resolve the dispute”.

He warned failure to do so was “putting children at risk”.

He confirmed he was seeking meetings with both the Health Minister and Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board.

Mr Davies said:

“Health visitors play a vital role in our communities – failure to resolve this dispute is putting children at risk.

“Plaid Cymru separatist ministers’ failure to intervene appropriately is particularly galling given Rhun ap Iorwerth’s pre-election comments.

“Rather than let this be another broken promise – Senedd ministers must get around the table with Health Board bosses and health visitors and sort this dispute out.”
