Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has warned action must be taken to combat a “deadly trend” of drivers deliberately travelling the wrong way down roads.

On the weekend, two police officers died pursuing a car driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway.

One of the car’s teenage passengers, all of whom were also killed, had previously shared footage on TikTok which appeared to show participation in deliberate dangerous driving.

Such videos have become prominent on the platform recently and are noted to perform well.

It has led to fears of a trend developing in which people drive dangerously deliberately to produce such content.

Mr Davies backed calls demanding social media companies remove the videos.

He also said local police in South Wales must be given all support they need to protect road users from the trend.

Mr Davies said:

“This deadly trend involving people deliberately driving dangerously to produce social media content must be stopped.

“Social media companies must ensure such videos are removed instantly.

“Local police in South Wales must also be given all the support they require to protect road users in our area from the trend.”
