Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has called on the Government to rule out devolving policing to the Senedd.
Mr Davies said Senedd ministers had failed to an adequate job with the powers they have, pointing to declining public services in the devolution era.
He criticised Plaid Cymru ministers’ ideological standpoints – describing their response to the disproportionate number of gender surgery referrals in Wales as “disturbing”.
He also pointed to Cardiff and Vale University Health Board – which has been blighted by systemic failings.
Mr Davies said he hadn’t called for the Health Board to be placed into special measures only because he was not convinced of Senedd ministers’ ability to sort the problems out.
Betsi Cadwaladr Health Board in North Wales has been in and out of special measures for over a decade, with no signs of improvement.
Mr Davies said:
“Whether it’s health or education, public services in Wales have gone backwards in areas for which Senedd ministers have responsibility.
“Cardiff and the Vale Health Board is blighted by systemic failings – the only reason I haven’t called for it to be put in special measures is because I don’t trust Plaid Cymru separatist ministers to sort the problems out.
“Policing must not be devolved – more powers is the last thing the Senedd needs.”
