Welsh Conservative Shadow Farming Minister Andrew RT Davies has called on Plaid Cymru ministers to provide support to help farmers overcome the impacts of the bluetongue outbreak.

Mr Davies said fallen stock support was required to assist with the costs of collecting and disposing of dead animals.

The NFU has warned some farms are unable to absorb the costs of several unforeseen financial pressures, putting their otherwise viable businesses into jeopardy.

Mr Davies said:

“Farmers are essential in producing the food to feed our nation, but many farms are facing huge pressures from the impacts of the bluetongue outbreak and other unforeseen events.

“Financial help is needed – including fallen stock support to assist with the costs of collecting and disposing of dead animals.

“Plaid Cymru Senedd ministers must bring forward a scheme urgently.”
