Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has slammed Plaid Cymru’s response to an illegal traveller site at Brocastle.
In a letter to Mr Davies, Economy Minister Adam Price said officials are currently preparing advice on the options to deal with the encampment, which has been in place since the beginning of August.
The Plaid Cymru Senedd member said preventing unauthorised access to such sites can be “challenging”, claiming the trespassers breached security measures by using machinery to remove concrete blocks.
Mr Davies described the response as “lamentable”, warning ministers’ failure to take decisive action sent a message to trespassers that once they had gained access, they would be able to remain on site.
He said proceedings should have commenced weeks ago, and any advice required should have been prepared back in August.
Mr Davies said:
“Residents have reported threatening behaviour and theft since this illegal traveller encampment was established in Brocastle back in August.
“Plaid Cymru separatist ministers’ slow response has been nothing short of a disgrace.
“This week, they confirmed to me officials are currently preparing advice on options to deal with the encampment.
“This should have been done weeks ago.
“Plaid claim it’s ‘challenging’ to prevent the illegal occupation occupations of sites like this is ludicrous – the absence of decisive action is the reason trespassers believe their behaviour will be tolerated.”
