South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has said figures showing a 13% rise in the number of small boat arrivals into the country shows the Plaid Cymru separatist and Labour’s Nation of Sanctuary policy must be scrapped.
More than 100,000 people claimed asylum in Britain last year, figures Mr Davies described as “completely unsustainable”.
He warned policies like Nation of Sanctuary, through which asylum seekers are helped to access the NHS, housing and welfare, are pull factors that encourage people to enter the country illegally.
Mr Davies said:
The number of people entering the country by small boat rose by 13% last year.
Plaid Cymru separatist and Labour’s Nation of Sanctuary policy helps asylum seekers access our NHS, welfare and housing.
It’s a pull factor that encourages more people to enter our country illegally – this irresponsible policy must be scrapped.
