Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies repeated his calls for Plaid Cymru’s Nation of Sanctuary policy to be scrapped, after a record 230 people crossed the Channel in one small boat.

The arrival marked the largest number of people to make the journey in a single vessel.

It broke the previous record set in July.

Mr Davies said a far stronger deterrent was required and called for all “pull factors” that encourage people to make the journey to be removed.

Mr Davies said:

“Illegal immigration poses huge dangers to our country – that 230 people arrived in a single vessel shows the scale of the challenge we face.

“To stop it, we must adopt a policy of zero tolerance – all pull factors that encourage people to enter our country illegally must go.

“Plaid Cymru separatists’ Nation of Sanctuary must be scrapped.”
