DAVIES: “McDonald’s an important employer in the Vale and Bridgend”

Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has paid a visit to one of the area’s local McDonald’s restaurants.

Mr Davies was welcomed to McDonald’s Bridgend restaurant by manager Dan, who served Mr Davies frequently when he was based at the company’s Culverhouse Cross store.

They joked that Dan soon came to know Mr Davies’ cappuccino order off by heart.

Since opening its first restaurant in Cardiff in 1984, McDonald’s has grown to75 restaurants across Wales.

Over 80% of these are run by independent franchisees, who are local business owners.

They employ more than 8,000 people across Wales, with the majority aged 18-24.

Mr Davies said:

“It was a pleasure to visit McDonald’s Bridgend restaurant, and I’m extremely grateful to Dan for the warm welcome.

“Dan was previously based at the company’s Culverhouse Cross store, which I visit frequently, and he knew my cappuccino order off by heart!

“Most of McDonald’s restaurants in Wales are in effect small businesses, run by independent franchisees.

“Combined, they employ more than 8,000 people, including a significant proportion aged 18-24.

“It’s important young people are provided with opportunities to get into the jobs market, and it was great to hear how McDonald’s do it across our area.”
