DAVIES: “Museum closure would be catastrophic”

Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has warned a prolonged closure of National Museum Cardiff would be “catastrophic”.

Culture Minister Heledd Fychan has failed to rule out the prospect and described it as not unusual.

A prolonged closure may be required to tackle a repair backlog in the tens of millions of pounds.

Mr Davies slammed Senedd ministers for allowing the situation to develop.

He pointed out Plaid Cymru had, in opposition, pressed the museum to waste millions of pounds decolonising its collections.

Mr Davies said:

“Plaid Cymru separatists spent years demanding public money was wasted decolonising the museum’s collections.

“Spending money making the museum anti-racist while essential maintenance was ignored is the reason this repair backlog exists.

“Plaid ministers must take responsibility for a situation they helped cause.”
