DAVIES: “Plaid lied to Covid bereaved families”

Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has said Plaid Cymru’s refusal to hold a Covid inquiry with full statutory powers in Wales amounts to “another broken promise”.

Covid Bereaved Families for Justice Cymru have said Plaid Cymru “straight faced lied to us”, after the party previously promised to hold an inquiry.

In November last year, Rhun ap Iorwerth criticised the then-Labour administration’s failure to hold an inquiry and pledged to “right this wrong”.

Mr Davies described Plaid’s election campaign as the “most dishonest I can remember”, pointing to a broken promise of universal free childcare and the downplaying of Welsh independence as other examples.

He said it was becoming “a question of the character” of Plaid’s leadership.

Mr Davies said:

“Plaid lied to Covid bereaved families about an inquiry, just like they lied to parents about free childcare.

“Other broken election promises on Welsh independence and to health visitors in Cwm Taf point to a pattern of dishonesty I’ve never seen before.

“This is becoming a question of the character of Plaid’s leadership.”
