Welsh Conservative Shadow Farming Minister Andrew RT Davies has demanded South Wales Police deploy more resources to tackle illegal hare coursing in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Mr Davies, who also represents the area in the Senedd, said the consequences were devastating for local farmers.
He warned hare coursers trespass on land, cause damage to gates and hedges and trample crops.
Several farmers have experienced threatening and intimidating behaviour when challenging those trespassing on their land.
Mr Davies repeated his calls for South Wales Police to establish a dedicated rural crime team.
He pointed out it was the only force in Wales not to have one.
Mr Davies said:
“Far more must be done to tackle illegal hare coursing – which is causing huge problems for local farmers.
“South Wales Police is the only force in Wales that does not have a dedicated rural crime team – and this needs to change.
“It’s time to end waste on DEI and other ideological projects and focus on protecting our rural communities.”
