Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has criticised Deputy First Minister Sioned Williams for travelling to a controversial event by ministerial car.
The Plaid Cymru politician confirmed to Mr Davies that she used a ministerial car to travel to the Welsh Refugee Council’s Nation of Sanctuary Awards, held on 15th June.
Mr Davies described Williams’ choice of transport as “wasteful and unnecessary”.
Williams also confirmed Welsh Government spent £2,596 plus VAT of taxpayers’ money funding the event.
Mr Davies said this was “just the latest example of money wasted on the Nation of Sanctuary”.
He repeated his calls for the scheme to be scrapped.
Mr Davies said:
“Plaid Cymru separatists have wasted taxpayers’ cash on this needless awards ceremony that could and should have gone towards fixing our public services.
“In an act of pure vanity, Sioned Williams used a ministerial car to travel to the event – a wasteful and unnecessary journey.
“Plaid Cymru separatists’ Nation of Sanctuary must be scrapped.”
