South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has called for life-saving safeguards for sepsis patients to be introduced in Wales.
Martha’s Rule – rolled out in England but not in place in Wales – allows families to seek an urgent second opinion about patients suspected of having sepsis.
It was named after 13-year-old Martha Mills who died in 2021 following missed opportunities to treat her condition.
Mr Davies said it is inexcusable that patients in Wales are not protected by safeguards in place elsewhere in Britain, warning Senedd ministers’ inaction is putting lives at risk.
He has backed a petition calling for Martha’s Law to be introduced in Wales.
Mr Davies said:
It’s inexcusable that life-saving safeguards for sepsis patients in place elsewhere in Britain do not apply in Wales.
Senedd ministers must act urgently to address this shortcoming.
Failure to do so is putting lives at risk.
