South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has called on the Vale of Glamorgan Council to “categorically” rule out a return of the Cosmeston aqua park, after the authority failed to confirm the scheme would not be brought back.
The aqua park will not be returning to Cosmeston this summer, to allow for a year long pause for environmental assessments to be carried out at the site.
At a recent Full Council meeting, concerns were raised that this would only prove to be a “temporary reprieve”.
The Council’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Bronwen Brooks, was asked to confirm that no administration in which she serves would bring the aqua park back to Cosmeston.
In response, Cllr Brooks stated: “At the moment, I have no idea what will [happen] in future.”
She said “an informed decision about what, if anything, comes to Cosmeston” would be taken once assessments were completed.
The Council’s Cabinet Member for Social Care and Health, Cllr Eddie Williams, could also be heard saying “no” in response to the request for assurances the aqua park would not return.
Mr Davies said:
The Council reluctantly announced this year long pause following the public anger at the aqua park in Cosmeston.
The site is clearly unsuitable for a development of this nature and we need assurances it will not return.
The Council must categorically rule out the aqua park ever returning to Cosmeston.
