South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has called for more resources to tackle potholes in the Vale of Glamorgan, after it emerged road repairs were lagging behind other parts of Wales.
The Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance survey revealed 210 potholes were repaired in the Vale in 2025-26.
7.3 miles of road resurfacing took place in the county.
Other local authorities had repaired 1668 potholes and resurfaced 57.7 miles of road during the same period, demonstrating the disparity.
Mr Davies said insufficient funds were allocated towards capital grants for road resurfacing, which have seen potholes become an increasing problem in the Vale.
To tackle the problem, Mr Davies wants wasteful expenditure stopped, with the monies put towards fixing the backlog.
To ensure it is prioritised, he said targets should be imposed on local authorities to repair potholes within 48 hours of being reported.
Mr Davies pointed to Plaid and Labour’s 36 more Senedd members, Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers and diversity, equality and inclusion initiatives as examples of wasteful spending that should be scrapped.
Mr Davies said:
It’s concerning to see the Vale lag behind when it comes to road repairs and resurfacing.
This is why local authorities should be set a target to repair all potholes within 48 hours of being reported.
More monies need to go towards road repairs – to fund it, wasteful expenditure like Plaid and Labour’s 36 more Senedd members and Nation of Sanctuary for asylum seekers must be scrapped.
