Davies: “Highest council tax rise in Wales will increase cost of living pressures on Vale residents”

South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has slammed the Vale of Glamorgan Council for imposing the joint highest council tax rise in Wales.

The Council announced a 5.5% rise in its draft budget earlier this year, but put this up to 6.5% when the final budget was voted through.

It did so despite holding a consultation with residents, which showed overwhelming opposition to a 6.5% rise.

All Vale Conservative councillors voted against the increase.

Mr Davies warned the inflation busting rise would place more pressures on Vale households during a cost of living crisis.

Mr Davies said:

The Vale Council’s decision to ignore its own consultation and impose the highest council tax rise in Wales is tone deaf.

Unfortunately, most councillors are out of touch, as demonstrated by Plaid Cymru separatist and Labour councillors’ decision to make the Vale a county of sanctuary for asylum seekers.

Vale Conservatives oppose the 6.5% increase and wasteful spending and make no apologies for standing up for residents.
