Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has called on Plaid Cymru Senedd ministers to take immediate steps to clear an illegal gypsy encampment at Brocastle.
The site is owned by Welsh Government, and as such they are responsible for removing its occupants.
Residents have reported intimidatory and anti-social behaviour by those trespassing on the site, which Mr Davies described as “unacceptable”.
Mr Davies has contacted Economy Minister Adam Price, demanding ministers take robust action to ensure the site’s illegal occupants are removed.
He warned failure to clear the site swiftly would send a message that such behaviour is tolerated.
Mr Davies also raised concerns regarding the site’s security and has asked ministers to confirm how the trespassers gained access.
Mr Davies said:
“Residents have reported intimidating and anti-social behaviour at the illegal gypsy encampment at Brocastle.
“This land is owned by Welsh Government.
“Plaid Cymru separatist ministers must act immediately to remove these trespassers and clear the site.”

Dear Adam
Re: Illegal gypsy site at Brocastle
I write with regard to the above.
As you will be aware, this illegal gypsy encampment on Welsh Government owned land is causing significant disturbances to the local community. Residents have reported intimidatory and anti-social behaviour by those occupying the site. This is completely unacceptable and must be addressed urgently.
I would therefore be grateful if you would outline the actions Welsh Government are taking to clear the site. It is important a clear message is sent that such behaviour will not be tolerated. Similarly, Welsh Government must make clear that it does not condone the occupants’ behaviour. As such, immediate steps must be taken to remove all those trespassing on the site.
Concerns have also been raised as to how those occupying the site gained access. The land is owned by Welsh Government and it is reasonable to expect it to be secured adequately. I would therefore be grateful if you would confirm if the occupants forced entry, or if the site was not secured properly.
Thank you for your assistance with this issue, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Andrew RT Davies MS
Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend
