Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has repeated his calls for a Wales-wide inquiry into grooming gangs, following convictions for child sexual exploitation at Caernarfon Crown Court.
Mustafa Iqbal, Mohamed Arshad and Ziaullah Badshah were found guilty of rape.
They had been part of a gang that operated in the Rhyl and Denbighshire areas.
Mr Davies said the convictions demonstrated the need for an inquiry into child sexual exploitation by grooming gangs across Wales.
He said he’d previously been accused of scaremongering for demanding an inquiry, which Plaid Cymru, Labour and Liberal Democrat Senedd members voted to block.
Mr Davies said:
“We know grooming gangs were operating in Wales – yet the Senedd voted to block an inquiry.
“Those of us who raised the issue of grooming gangs were repeatedly accused of scaremongering – in a dangerous attempt to shut down debate.
“These convictions prove an inquiry is needed – Plaid Cymru ministers must take immediate steps to initiate it.”
