Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has rejected calls for a grace and favour residence for the First Minister, describing it as an “unjustifiable extravagance”.
Mr Davies said comparisons with the Prime Minister’s official residence at 10 Downing Street were “ludicrous”, pointing out the roles are “in no way comparable”.
He said other public officials in Wales, such as council leaders, do not get official residences.
Mr Davies said:
“The public will be horrified by talk of a grace and favour residence for the First Minister – it’s an unjustifiable extravagance we do not need.
“Comparisons with the Prime Minister’s official residence are a false flag – the head of the British Government is not comparable to a leader in a devolved administration.
“Most public officials like council leaders don’t get an official residence – and the same should apply to Rhun Ap Iorwerth.”
