South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has welcomed the Government’s decision not to give the Senedd powers over policing and criminal justice.
Responding to Plaid Cymru separatist Liz Saville-Roberts in the House of Commons, the Home Secretary she confirmed she not think the powers should be devolved.
Amanda Blackman, chief constable at North Wales Police, said her force’s region was “very much connected from a criminality perspective to my neighbouring forces in Merseyside and through Cheshire”.
“Our population move, if you like, is more east to west, west to east than it is north to south,” she added.
Mr Davies said any reforms to policing must reflect this reality.
Mr Davies said:
“The Senedd must not be put in charge of policing.
“Senedd ministers have an appalling track record on law and order – they want to give prisoners the vote.
“As senior police officers say – policing reforms must reflect the reality that in most Welsh regions, population moves typically look east towards England than they do to other parts of Wales.”
