South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has called on the South Wales Police and Crime Commissioner to rethink a proposed 7% rise to the police precept.
If imposed, Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend residents will pay the precept through their council tax bills.
Mr Davies condemned the police commissioner for setting the wrong strategic priorities for the force.
He said the main priority should be resourcing frontline policing, putting more officers on our streets.
He warned that too often, this had played second fiddle to divisive DEI initiatives that took up an unnecessary amount of police resources.
Mr Davies said:
“This inflation busting increase to the police precept has been proposed as a result of incompetent management of the force’s budget.
“The Police and Crime Commissioner should abandon expensive diversity, equality and inclusion scheme divert police resources away from where they’re most needed.
“Residents are paying the price of this unnecessary waste.”
