South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has demanded the Vale of Glamorgan Council extends the consultation on its Replacement Local Development Plan.
The RLDP has proven extremely controversial, with “key sites” for development earmarked in Dinas Powys, Weycock Cross, Rhoose and St Athan.
Several local campaign groups have been launched against the plans.
The consultation on the Deposit Plan is set to close on Wednesday, having opened in the last week of January.
Mr Davies said the six-week period was “insufficient” given the number of documents involved.
He said he’d been contacted by countless residents who found the process “confusing and convoluted”, with many reams of pages to read through.
He warned the information is not easily accessible, with material relating to specific sites spread across several documents.
Mr Davies said:
The Replacement Local Development Plan will decimate the Vale by concreting over precious green spaces in communities including Dinas Powys, Barry, Rhoose and St Athan.
This consultation is flawed, with relevant information not easily accessible, hidden in the small print.
Residents, most of whom work full time, are expected to read through reams and reams of documents.
Given this situation, it’s not fair or practical to expect people to respond to the consultation in the time frame provided.
The consultation period must be extended.
