Conservative Senedd member for Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan Andrew RT Davies has condemned Plaid Cymru decision to continue funding an African tree planting scheme.
The Mbale Tree Planting Programme began under the Senedd’s previous Labour administration – with Plaid Cymru’s support.
Mr Davies has called on Plaid to scrap the project – warning funding such schemes starves public services of cash.
In a letter to Mr Davies, First Minister Rhun ap Iorwerth confirmed the project remains in the Welsh Government’s budget.
As a result, a further £350,000 of taxpayers’ money will be spent planting trees in Africa this year.
Mr Davies said:
“Plaid Cymru separatists’ decision to continue funding tree planting in Africa shows nothing has changed.
“Taxpayers’ money should be spent fixing our broken public services – not vanity projects for Plaid’s progressive activists.
“The Mbale Tree Planting Programme must be scrapped.”
