Conservative Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has made his first visit in his new role of Shadow Farming Minister, to Cwm Risca Farm in Tondu.
The visit was arranged by Nature Friendly Farming Network, a farmer-led membership organisation.
NFFN supports farmers who want to restore the balance between farming and nature.
Mr Davies, who still runs his family farm in the Vale of Glamorgan, was welcomed to Cwm Risca by Peter and Emma Anthony.
Speaking following the visit, he described Welsh farmers as “custodians of the land” who play a key role in conservation.
He called on policymakers to ensure they help, not hinder, Welsh farmers as they fulfil their responsibilities.
Mr Davies said:
“There are no better custodians of the land than Welsh farmers.
“Agriculture is crucial to conservation, and Welsh farmers must be helped as we fulfil this responsibility.
“Welsh farming is in my blood, and it’s a huge privilege to be appointed Shadow Farming Minister.
“Upon my appointment, Nature Friendly Farming Network were among the first to reach out. I was all too pleased to meet.
“It was a privilege to make my first visit as Shadow Farming Minister to a farm in Bridgend and the Vale of Glamorgan.
“I’m so grateful to Peter and Emma for their warm welcome to Cwm Risca and for being so generous with their time.”
