Senedd member for the Vale of Glamorgan and Bridgend Andrew RT Davies has welcomed a new safety campaign at Cardiff Airport, launched in memory of Tom Channon.
18-year old Tom tragically lost his life while on holiday in Spain in 2018, after falling over a knee high wall.
It was Tom’s first holiday away without his parents.
Tom’s parents, John and Ceri, from Rhoose, have worked tirelessly to launch a safety campaign in his memory.
The “Stay Aware, Stay Safe, Stay Together” campaign will display a series of posters in the Airport’s check-in and departure areas.
It urges young people holidaying with friends to ensure they remain vigilant and stay together when going out.
Mr Davies said:
“Tom’s tragic death highlights the unexpected dangers we face when on holiday, and I’m pleased to see this important campaign launched in his memory.
“Holidaying abroad with friends for the first time is a fun and exciting moment for young people.
“But they must be aware of the risks.
“Tom’s parents John and Ceri have worked tirelessly to prevent similar tragedies occurring in future.
“Tom would be exceptionally proud of the work they’ve done in his memory.”
