DAVIES: “Cosmeston Aqua Park climbdown welcome”

South Wales Central Conservative MS Andrew RT Davies has welcomed the news that the controversial aqua park at Cosmeston Lakes Country Park is not set to return this summer.

The Vale of Glamorgan Council has confirmed it is instead recommending a year-long period of environmental assessment at the site.

Welcoming the news, Mr Davies praised the effort of the entire community and local campaigners for opposing the development so relentlessly.

He described Cosmeston as a “quiet, tranquil location unsuitable for an aqua park”.

He also emphasised that the area’s natural beauty must be preserved long term, and said that a temporary pause is insufficient.

He vowed to continue to press for a commitment that the aqua park would never return.

Mr Davies said:

“Cosmeston is completely unsuitable for a development like an aqua park. It’s exceptionally welcome news it will not be returning to the site this summer.

“This decision has been taken following the passionate and relentless campaign led by the entire community. By working together, the park has been protected.

“This must not be a temporary reprieve. We must keep up the pressure until we receive confirmation the aqua park will never return.”
